Teachers: By Choice or Compulsion?

Teaching is widely regarded as a noble profession, often referred to as the "builders of the nation". Teachers play a critical role in shaping the personalities of the children, who will be the future citizens of the country. Given this enormous responsibility, it is vital that teachers possess a love for teaching and view it as a sacred and moral duty to help create better citizens.

However, not all teachers have a natural inclination towards teaching. Some may have chosen teaching as a profession out of compulsion rather than choice. Unfortunately, this can result in a lot of stress and strain, which can be reflected in their teaching methods. On the other hand, teachers who have chosen this out of their passion for teaching tend to teach their students with their heart and soul. They go beyond the prescribed textbooks and make an effort to link their lessons with real-life situations, imparting a practical aspect of life to the students.

For anyone to be successful in their profession, it is essential to have the right aptitude—a natural inclination towards that profession. Teaching is no exception. Individuals with a teaching aptitude must explore their talent and develop the necessary skills to become effective teachers. Teachers must also have mastery over their subject matter, as students cannot be misled all the time.

Communication is another crucial characteristic required for teaching, including voice projection, intonation, and knowledge of tone groups. Teachers must have a command of the language and the desired communication skills to ensure that their message reaches all the students in the classroom.

Thorough knowledge of the subject is critical for teachers to effectively impart knowledge to their students. While some teachers may lack communication skills, they may still be effective teachers due to their command of the subject matter.

In any profession, the right attitude is crucial, and teaching is no different. Teachers must have the right attitude towards their students and the profession. Having a good attitude can often make up for any shortcomings in other areas, while overconfident teachers can impart negative attitudes to their students.

Finally, having a purpose in life is crucial for all of us, and teachers are no exception. Teachers who have a passion for their profession, the necessary skills, and the right attitude are content and happy because they are fulfilling their duties with diligence and honesty.
