The word "academy" has its origins in ancient Greek mythology and has a long and illustrious history. The Akademia contained a sacred grove of olive trees, dedicated to Athena (the Greek Goddess of wisdom and skills), outside the city walls of ancient Athens. The site of the Akademia was considered holy by Athena and sheltered her religious cult. Centuries later, Plato, the classical Greek philosopher, founded a school by the name Akademia, where Aristotle studied for twenty years.
