In the year 1911, the primary school (presently mixed primary school) for Indian boys’ was established. Sri Kanti Das, a reputed teacher felt the need of a separate school for the girls. He started with few girls in a thatched house adjacent to the present building. Later it was looked after by the better half of Mr. Kanti Das. Initially, the school was known as B N Railway Indian Girls’ School, Adra. In the post-independent time when B N Railway was renamed as S E Railway the school too was renamed as S E Railway Girls’ School Adra. The school was undertaken by the Railways in the year 1926.In the year 1962 the first batch of students appeared in in the school Final. The curriculum followed was according to the guidelines of the Education Dept. Bihar. Later in the year 1956 when Purulia district was included in Bengal the school started to follow the curriculum as prescribed by the Dept. of Education Govt. of West Bengal. The school had four media, Bengali, Hindi, Telegu, and Urdu. Mr. K K Sarkar( 02/02/1926 to 31/09/1937) was the first Head of this institution( the then Head Pandit) who was succeeded by Mrs. Snehalata Sen. Mrs. Ilakana Gupta, a great academician, was the headmistress whose administrative acumen brought laurels to the school. The number of students in 1926 were 72, in 1932 it was 349 and currently it is about 1500.
