Camellia School , Darjeeling About Us

For more than 4 decades, surviving numerous setbacks - we have challenged, motivated, disciplined, and inspired these students, and we have grown to love them for their amazing gifts and unique abilities.Chandrakala Gurung (Founder President) together with her oldest daughter Mrs Suprova Hamal (Founder Principal) and Mr Lee Pradhan (Founder Administrator) wanted to start a school of their own – one that would be unlike any other. They shared common beliefs and ideas, and they knew that they were called to move forward with a passion to help uplift and educate the local community. At that time, in the 70’s the school had no name, no funding, and no facility. The three actively recruited board members who shared their vision and passion. Once they had a team of supporters began to scour the town in hopes of finding a school site. After looking at close to fifty properties, they came upon the foundations of a house being laid. They were told it was no place for a school; far away from the bustling town with only local working class residents, they knew it was exactly what they had been looking for. Their mission was not only to lift up their students in a peaceful environment; they wanted to lift up a community as well.
